decaturDecatur is a city in, and county seat of, DeKalb County, Georgia, with a population of 19,335 in the 2010 census. It is an intown suburb of Atlanta and part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area, and its public transportation is served by three MARTA rail stations. The City of Decatur was founded in 1823 at the intersection of two Native American trails and was named for naval hero, Stephen Decatur.

Decatur combines historic neighborhoods, a small-town feeling, tree-lined streets and excellent, award-winning schools. The city has gained renewed economic vigor thanks to several long term downtown development plans that have come to fruition, making Decatur a trendy small mixed use district with easy transit to downtown Atlanta. Decatur’s Square is home to restaurants, antique shops, and the annual Decatur Arts Festival.

Decatur retains a strong connection to its history, while preparing for the future with managed growth and responsible development. Decatur maintains its own identity while forging bonds with other communities locally, nationally and internationally. It is just minutes east of downtown Atlanta, minutes west of Stone Mountain, and the Other U.S. cities and counties named Decatur participate in some of our festivities.
